While Ubisoft has yet to confirm, it seems the protagonist of the upcoming Assassin's Creed game has been outed ahead of an official reveal thanks to… a t-shirt?!

It seems someone put some stock out on the shelf a bit too soon. The image above depicts what looks to be the next assassin, named Ba Yek. The background features an outline of the insect god Khepri, the beetle that pushes the sun across the sky in ancient Egyptian mythology, and the Assassin's Creed logo in the bottom corner looks like it incorporates the Eye of Horus symbol.

Confirmation, kind of

The features of the character seem to confirm previously gathered information: A character named Bayek who carries a shield and bow. That doesn't necessarily confirm this, though, as some hoaxes have been quite in-depth. With that said, the image is quite detailed and the photo really does look to have been taken in a GameStop or some other game retailer. There's a lot of detail here that points to it being legitimate. But still, take it with the usual grain of salt.

Seeming to confirm this is an acknowledgement from Ashraf Ismail, who  directed Assassin's Creed: Black Flag and is now working on an "unannounced project." Keeping it simple, Ismail said "Nice t-shirt." GameSpot reports that the original image comes via a now-removed Facebook post to a French Assassin's Creed fanpage. That it's been removed so quickly could point further toward it being a legitimate image.

Regardless, E3 2017 is less than two weeks away, so we'll know more very, very soon.
