Canaccord Genuity smartphone sales through MarchAccording to Canaccord Genuity analyst Mike Walkley, Apple’s iPhone 4S remained the top selling smartphone in the U.S. through last month, continuing its dominance since it was released last October. Walkley and his team found that the iPhone 4S was the best-selling smartphone at Verizon Wireless, AT&T and Sprint in March, while Samsung remained a close second.

“Our March channel checks indicted stronger sell-through trends versus February levels with sales rebounding after a slow start to 2012,” Walkley said. “During March, our checks indicated the iPhone 4S remained the top smartphone in the U.S. market and Samsung gained share as smartphone penetration grows in U.S. prepaid channels. In fact, we believe iPhones are outselling all other smartphones combined at Sprint and AT&T and selling at roughly equal volume to all Android smartphones at Verizon.”

The best selling phones were mostly the same for Sprint and AT&T. The iPhone 4S and the Galaxy S II took the top two spots from December through February, although the Galaxy Note replaced AT&T’s iPhone 4 as the third most popular phone in March. The Galaxy Nexus was Verizon’s second most popular phone from December February, when it fell to third place behind the Motorola DROID RAZR/RAZR MAXX. The Samsung Galaxy S II was the top dog on T-Mobile, followed by the HTC Amaze.
