Apple first announced the Apple Watch in 2014 and it has stayed relatively the same every since. Sure, there’s been some minor upgrades to the glass and sensors, but overall, the design is exactly the same. That will reportedly change in 2018.
According to a new report from reliable KGI Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, Apple will announce the Apple Watch 4 later this year with a complete redesign. The redesign is said to apply to both the 38mm and 42mm watches and will come with a 15-percent larger display, bigger battery and enhanced health monitoring biometrics.
Unfortunately, Kuo does not mention whether or not the redesign means a round display. It’s possible the redesign will keep the same square display with Apple instead reducing the bezels leading to the bigger display. Right now, the Apple Watch Series 3’s display comes with a 55.4-percent screen-to-body ratio.
Kuo does state the Apple Watch 4’s design will be a “more trendy form factor design.”
KGI expects Apple to sell between 22 to 24 million Apple Watch units in 2018. Introducing a redesigned Apple Watch will go a long way in revitalizing interesting in the wearable.
We can expect to first see the new watch in the fall, likely during Apple’s September event where it announces the new iPhones.
