What you need to know
- Apple today unveiled new refreshed MacBook Pros.
- The updated MacBook Pro comes with a new 8-core Intel processors making it more powerful than ever.
- Apple is also introducing a new butterfly keyboard that should hopefully end all the issues with it.
- The new 13-inch model starts at $1,799 and the 15-inch model starts at $2,399.
The new MacBook Pro will now feature Intel's 8th and 9th-generation processors, with the latter option boasting an eight-core processor, making it the most powerful laptop Apple has ever made. According to Apple, the new 8-core MacBook Pro now offers two times faster performance compared to the quad-core models and 40-percent faster than the six-core models.
While that is notable, the bigger change has been made to the keyboard. Ever since Apple launched the butterfly keyboard with the 2016 MacBook Pro, it has had constant issues even though it's introduced three refreshes, including one last year that added an internal membrane cover.
Apple is hoping this new keyboard, which is made from a new material, is the last one it needs to make to completely eradicate the issues with the butterfly keyboard.
Unfortunately, the upgrades only extend to the Touch Bar models. The base non-Touch Bar MacBook Pro is still stuck with the old 7th-gen Intel processor and second-gen butterfly keyboard.
The new 13-inch MacBook Pro with Touch Bar starts at $1,799 while the 15-inch model starts at $2,399. Both are now available for purchase through Apple's site.
