Apple has teamed up with a bunch of iOS developers for its "biggest fundraising push yet" for World AIDS Day. Between now and December 7, 100% of the proceeds from selected apps will go to the Product RED charity, and Apple will be throwing in a portion of the proceeds from every product sold on Monday, December 1.
You may have already noticed that a number of popular iOS apps have been updated to support the campaign, with titles like GarageBand, Monument Valley, Threes!, FIFA 15, and Paper all joining in. All of them sport Product RED-themed app icons, and many offer new, limited-edition content that you can obtain with an in-app purchase.
"For years, Apple and (RED) have teamed up to help fight AIDS in Africa–now, we're bringing that collaboration to the App Store," the Cupertino company says in an iTunes message. "From 24 November-7 December, every time you purchase a participating (PRODUCT)RED app or In-App Purchase item, 100% of the proceeds go to the Global Fund."
We've listed all of the apps and games participating in the campaign at the bottom of this post. If you've been thinking about buying any of them, now is an excellent time to do so. And if you already own some of them, be sure to check out the new content that's being added for Product RED. Some apps are getting a fancy red redesign, while others are offering new content for a limited time.
Apple is also contributing some of its own sales revenue to the cause. On Monday, December 1 — World AIDS Day — a portion of the proceeds from every product, accessory, and gift card Apple sells will be donated to the Global Fund. So if you buy a new Mac or a pair of Beats headphones, or perhaps an iPad or iPhone to give as a Christmas present, a percentage of the money you pay will go towards fighting AIDS in Africa.
Since it was founded in 2006, Product RED has raised more than $275 million for the Global Fund — more than $75 million of which has been donated by Apple, its partners, and its customers.
