In addition to iOS 8 beta 3, Apple on Monday also released the third developer preview of OS X Yosemite. Between the two, Yosemite might actually be the bigger update we'll see when it officially launches for consumers this fall. We spent some time with it when the first preview launched in June, and were really impressed with where Apple is taking the operating system. Aside from how the software looks, Yosemite is also getting features such as continuity, a more enhanced Spotlight, and more powerful built-in apps.
Yosemite and iOS 8 are both expected to launch this fall, likely around the time Apple's iPhone 6 hits. Last year, iOS 7 launched toward the end of September, while OS X 10.9 actually launched at the end of October, so perhaps we'll see a similar schedule. The third beta of iOS 8 is currently out now, so you can also take that for a spin right away if you're a developer.
As always, we'll be sure to update this post if we find any big features in the third preview of Yosemite. So far, via 9to5Mac, is appears as though the QuickTime icon has been changed, Dark Mode is now enabled, and badges for app notifications are larger.
