Apple has plans to release the golden master of iOS 5 to overseas assemblers some time between September 23 and September 30th, perfect timing for a mid-October launch of the phone.

The information comes from sources speaking to AppleInsider who claim the phone went into production in late August, and that the receipt of the software in the coming weeks is the last step in the phone's production.

The iPhone 5 has still not been announced by Apple. The handset is expected to come with Apple's A5 processor, the same processor used in the iPad 2, and potentially have a higher resolution screen and camera.
