Apple on Monday released watchOS 5, a major update for Apple Watch users. The software is available for free as an over-the-air update, and will be available as the default software when the Apple Watch Series 4 becomes available on Friday.
With watchOS 5, Apple is putting more emphasis on staying healthy. There are now features like activity competitions, where you can challenge friends to different workouts, and automatic workout detection, making the experience easier and more seamless.
The new software also supports new workouts, including yoga and hiking, as well as new running features. Now, when you go on a run, the Apple Watch will track your cadence for indoor and outdoor runs and walks, as well as a feature that will alert users when they’re behind or ahead of their target pace.
Additionally, watchOS 5 supports a walkie-talkie feature, Apple Podcasts, enhanced notifications, and more. It’s a big update for existing Apple Watch owners, and it will undoubtedly make the upcoming Series 4 the most powerful wearable money can buy.
Apple’s watchOS 5 is available now.
