Following news that iPhone shipments came in below expectations last quarter, now comes a report from Gartner that reveals Mac shipments were also down.
The preliminary PC shipping estimates by Gartner revealed that Apple’s Mac shipments declined from year to year. In the Q4 of 2018, Mac shipments came in at 4.9 million, down from the 5.1 million Apple shipped in Q4 of 2017. Interestingly, the dip did not hurt its PC market share, which actually rose from 7.1-percent to 7.2-percent.
Apple maintained its position as the number four PC seller behind Lenovo, HP and Dell. Lenovo led all PC makers with 16.6 million shipments followed by HP and Dell with 15.3 million and 10.9 million shipments, respectively. Nipping at the heels of Apple is Asus with 4.2 million shipments.
Taking a more microscopic look, Apple’s shipments within the US largely were down from 1.8 million to 1.7 million, though it rose in market share from 12.1-percent to 12.4 percent.
In total, Gartner pegs Apple’s total 2018 Mac shipments at 18 million, down 5-percent from the 19 million shipments in 2017.
