One of the major features Apple has added to its devices over the past couple years has been True Tone technology, which adjusts the color of the display to match the ambient lightning in the room. Up until now, the technology has been reserved for Apple’s Macs, iPads and iPhones, but the feature is making its way to other new products later this year.
First reported by MacRumors, a new support document on Apple’s site details how users can adjust the True Tone capability on the Apple Thunderbolt Display (via Apple Thunderbolt 3 to Thunderbolt 2 adapter), LG UltraFine 5K Display and LG UltraFine 4K display. This marks the first time an external display will support the feature.
While in the Displays tab in System Preferences, users using these external displays will now be prompted to activate or deactivate the True Tone feature right under the Brightness toggle. When using other third-party monitors that don’t support the feature, the True Tone button will not be visible.
It’s worth noting that the feature will only work with MacBook models that support Apple’s True Tone technology, which as of now only includes the recently announced 2018 MacBook Pro.
With the new MacBook Pro now shipping, users who have these specific external displays can take advantage of the True Tone feature right away.
