Sometimes typing on a touchscreen just doesn’t cut it. In conjunction with today’s iPad Pro announcement, Apple introduced a new Smart Keyboard, which also acts as a cover for the enormous tablet. Apple is clearly aligning this device to be a productivity workhorse (and as a Surface competitor), so it’s no surprise the company would create a physical keyboard. It’s a case, and a keyboard. Smart Keyboard.

Apple said a woven fabric creates the structure of the keys, and is built similarly to the new MacBook keyboard. We’re going to have to use the keyboard to actually get a feel for it, but you can expect plenty of third-party alternatives to come out this holiday season. And that might be the best option, because Apple’s Smart Keyboard is going to retail for $169 this November. That’s expensive.
