Apple has confirmed that it is all out of jet black iPhone 7 units ahead of Friday’s launch, and there won’t be any iPhone 7 Plus handsets, either. Those who were hoping to pick up one of these models without a reservation will have to look elsewhere.
The jet black iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus have been in short supply since preorders kicked off last week. Fans found that both models sold out incredibly quickly, despite the fact that jet black is only available with 128GB and 256GB storage options.
Some iPhone 7 Plus variants have been hard to obtain, too — and it seems that’s not going to change anytime soon. Apple is now warning those who do not have a reservation that they won’t be picking up any of these devices from an Apple store tomorrow.
“Beginning Friday, limited quantities of iPhone 7 in silver, gold, rose gold, and black will be available for walk-in customers at Apple retail stores,” the company said in a statement today. “During the online pre-order period, initial quantities of iPhone 7 Plus in all finishes and iPhone 7 in jet black sold out and will not be available for walk-in customers.”
You might get lucky at a third-party retailer. Apple adds that “availability at partner locations for all finishes may vary and we recommend checking directly with them.” If you’re really lucky, you might find the handset you’re after.
However, if you don’t want to go hunting Friday morning, your easiest option right now is to just order the iPhone 7 or iPhone 7 Plus you want online — from Apple, your carrier, or a third-party retailer — and wait patiently for it to arrive.
Sadly, those jet black iPhones won’t be shipping until November at the earliest now.
“We sincerely appreciate our customers’ patience as we work hard to get the new iPhone into the hands of everyone who wants one as quickly as possible,” Apple says.
