Apple just announced QuickType for iOS 8 with predictive suggestions. The company’s built-in keyboard will offer suggestions based on what you’re typing and improve as it learns your preferences. Apple also promises this data will be encrypted and stored locally on your phone so it can’t be used by the company or any third parties for marketing or analytics purposes.

QuickType works similarly to predictive keyboards we’ve seen on competing operating systems in the past. As you type, the keyboard will now offer three options just above the keyboard which you can select to complete the word. Unfortunately you still can’t swipe to type on iOS like you can on Android or Windows Phone, but it’s still a solid step forward.
