During yesterday’s Apple quarterly earnings call, the company touted the fact that well over nine billion apps have been downloaded for the iPhone, iPod Touch and iPad. In celebration of this milestone, they’ve launched a page in the iTunes Store (iTunes link) that lists the top ten most downloaded apps in paid and free versions.
All-Time Top Paid iPhone Apps
- Doodle Jump
- Tap Tap Revenge 3
- Pocket God
- Angry Birds
- Tap Tap Revenge 2.6
- Bejeweled 2 + Blitz
- Traffic Rush
- Tap Tap Revenge Classic
- AppBox Pro Alarm
- Flight Control
Only one isn’t a game, and that’s AppBox Pro Alarm. Good to see people are spending their money on such productive tools for their iPhones.
All-Time Top Free iPhone Apps
- Pandora
- Google Mobile App
- Shazam
- Movies by Flixster
- The Weather Channel
- Google Earth
- Bump
- Skype
- Paper Toss
Apparently when you get to free iPhone apps we get a bit more serious than when we pay for something. True, the list is topped by Facebook, and there is a healthy amount of music & movies on here, but at least Bump and Skype are on there.
All-Time Top Paid iPad Apps
- SoundHound
- StickWars
- FlightTrack
- Backbreaker Football
- Calorie Tracker
- BlocksClassic
- iFart Mobile
- GoodReader for iPad
- Cro-Mag Rally
- Ambiance
This list is rather interesting. We have a mixture of music, games, weight loss assistance … and a fart app. People actually pay for an app that makes fart noises? I think I may have lost some of my hope for humanity.

Remember folks, Mark Zuckerberg doesn’t feel there needs to be a Facebook app for the iPad because it isn’t mobile enough. His company tops the iPhone charts, but the fact the iPad sold 7.33 million units last quarter alone isn’t enough to get him to build one for the iPad. It does appear people want to use the iPad for reading, however.
What say you? What are some of your all time favorite apps that didn’t make the lists? Any on there that surprise you?
