Apple vs Samsung Fight

Apple and Samsung have finally trimmed some of the patent claims both are leveling in an upcoming case, but if it's enough to satisfy the judge remains to be seen.

Judge Lucy Koh last week ordered both Apple and Samsung to trim down the number of claims each was making in a case that is scheduled to go before a jury in July.  All told 37 products were involved in the case, and with each side limited to just 25 hours of  testimony, she didn't see how this could be properly handled.  "I think that's cruel and unusual punishment to a jury, so I'm not willing to do it.  If you're going to trial in July, this is not going to be acceptable," the judge said in her latest order.

According to FOSS Patents, both companies have adhered to the order and cut down the number of claims, but of course there are now accusations that not enough has been done.  Apple cut the number of claims against Samsung by about half, and five hours later the Korean-based manufacturer cut five of its 12 claims.  However, Samsung is saying that Apple still has too many claims on the table.  It will be ultimately up to Judge Koh to decide.

As it stands, it doesn't look like any settlement is going to be reached between the two companies any time soon, but the CEOs are still scheduled for two days of talks later this month.
