Apple’s AirPods are now available for order. The earbuds were originally set to launch earlier this year, but the release date was pushed back for unknown reasons.

AirPods aren’t cheap. They clock in at $159 before taxes, but they’re cordless and pair effortlessly with iOS devices. They also travel in a compact box that not only protects the headphones but also doubles as a charging case. There are a few other features Apple likes to highlight.

“Audio automatically plays as soon as you put them in your ears and pauses when you take them out,” the company says. “To adjust the volume, change the song, make a call, or even get directions, just double-tap to activate Siri. Driven by the custom Apple W1 chip, AirPods use optical sensors and a motion accelerometer to detect when they’re in your ears. Whether you’re using both AirPods or just one, the W1 chip automatically routes the audio and engages the microphone. And when you’re on a call or talking to Siri, an additional accelerometer works with beamforming microphones to filter out background noise and focus on the sound of your voice.”

AirPods arrive before the holidays

The good news is that orders placed today will arrive on December 21, just in time for the holidays. They might look a little goofy right now, but maybe that’ll start to fade if they become more popular. Hit the source to grab your Apple AirPods now.
