Marvel already confirmed there would be two post-credits scenes in Ant-Man and the Wasp. Now that the movie is out, we know exactly what happens. To nobody’s surprise, one of the scenes will play an important part of the Avengers 4.
Note there are spoilers ahead
The post-credits scene you’ll want to stay for actually happens about midway through the credits. In it, Ant-Man is seen in the Quantum Realm, while Hope, Hank, and Janet stay behind. Just as Ant-Man is set to return, that’s when the key moment happens.
Before Ant-Man can return, Hope, Hank, and Janet are turned into dust, the result of Thanos’ actions in Avengers: Infinity War. That leaves Ant-Man stranded in the Quantum Realm with no idea that half of the universe was just wiped out.
It’s a significant moment in the lead up to Avengers 4, and a pretty dark way to end the otherwise bubbly Ant-Man and the Wasp. And among the many different post-credits scenes that have been in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, it’s one of the biggest.
It means the stakes will be incredibly high for Ant-Man heading into Avengers 4. Not only will he have to find a way out of the Quantum Realm (again) but he’ll have to join up with the remaining Avengers to figure out how to undo the damage done by Thanos.
The other post-credits scene comes at the very end, and features a giant ant playing the drums. It’s a much more light-hearted way to end the sequel, until… Marvel throws yet another wrench into the whole thing. As the screen goes dark, it reads, “Ant-Man and the Wasp will return,” followed by a question mark.
Ant-Man and the Wasp is now in theaters.
