Android Wear is getting a major update later this year and Google on Wednesday teased the big new features users can look forward to. Finally, the software proves Google finally has an idea of what smartwatches should be.

In Android Wear 2.0, Google is introducing a lot of new features, including standalone apps, complications API, improved input methods, a new system UI, and more. On stage at I/O, Google said it was focused on improving three key experiences: watch faces, messaging and fitness. These are paramount to creating a platform that’s not reliant on the smartphone you already own.
