Art is imitating life in the first trailer of American Horror Story: Cult. The horror series is returning for a seventh season in September and the official trailer detailing what the season will entail is full of horrific moments involving creepy-ass clowns.
From what can be discerned from the trailer, it will follow the life of a married couple Ally (Sarah Paulson) and Ivy (Alison Pill). Ally isn’t taking Donald Trump’s ascent into the presidency very well which has caused the return of her coulrophobia—the fear of clowns. You can see where this is going.
On the other side, the semi-psychotic Kai Peterson (Evan Peters) seems to be the leader of the cult from which the season’s title derives from. He eerily speaks ominous statements that set the stage for the season’s plot.
“If you get people scared enough, they will set the world on fire,” Kai recites.
This is the point in the trailer where the action really starts to happen. Ally and Ivy’s house is broken in by people wearing clown masks who arrived in an ice cream truck. They slowly make their way into the house, hunting its inhabitants, Ally, Ivy and their young son.
There’s even a cameo by the diabolical Twisty, the demented clown featured in American Horror Story: Freak Show, during the trailer.
The entire trailer is quite creepy and worth a watch if you dare. American Horror Story: Cult will premiere September 5 on FX.
