Amazon's Appstore for Android will officially turn three on March 22. Where did the time go? As an alternative to Google's immense Google Play ecosystem, Amazon's foray into mobile has been pretty successful; there are currently over 180,000 apps in the U.S. Appstore, for example, with availability in 198 countries across the globe. No hard download numbers were shared, but given the quality of Amazon's more recent Kindle Fire tablets, we imagine the figures are pretty substantial. That's neither here nor there, because Amazon is offering you, the customer, free apps in celebration of its birthday (initial celebrations actually started March 16).
Today and tomorrow, Amazon will offer a number of "Appstore Hits" for free—in total, the bundle of apps has a value of over $50, so that's quite a bit of savings. Among the hits is Swype keyboard ($3.99), POLARIS Office ($12.99), MONOPOLY ($4.99) and Battle Maiden Yuko Runner ($10.00). In addition, Amazon will still continue to offer up to 60-percent off on select apps, along with promotions for in-app items for games, which can also earn buyers Amazon Coins in return. Discounts are expected to continue through March 29, so if you haven't checked out Amazon's Appstore already, you still have some time to get some great free (or discounted) stuff.
