Several images of Apple’s alleged “iOS in the Car” interface have been shared by app developer Steve Troughton-Smith, showing off what the experience will be like when it officially launches. The deep in-car integration is meant to offer an iOS-style interface on a car’s in-dash touchscreen, giving users easier access to functions such as making phone calls, maps, music controls and more. The feature has been hyped up by Apple for a while, though the service hasn’t yet rolled out despite a number of potential partnerships waiting in the wings.
The images provided by Smith are actually slightly different than what Apple has provided in the past, suggesting the service has undergone a slight overhaul since its official announcement; the images themselves were allegedly extracted from Apple’s most recent iOS 7.1 beta 4, which just began hitting developer hands on Monday of this week. Previous iOS in the Car details were revealed in the iOS 7.1 beta 2, which could mean that the service will be made public when iOS 7.1 is finished, although it’s unclear when that will be. Smith has yet to comment or provide details about the images, and how they were extracted.
A number of big-name auto manufacturers have voiced interest in iOS in the Car integration, including Audi, BMW, Chevrolet and Honda. With more and more evidence suggesting the release of iOS in the Car is imminent, perhaps we’ll see a formal announcement relatively soon.
