I'm a series fan when it comes to the Alien franchise. No, you won't find me arguing in favor of the recent films (or the third, for that matter). But, where the first two flicks and media in the same vein are concerned? Yes, I'm a major fan.

Alien, for an extended period of time, was my favorite horror flick. It's essentially Halloween in space (I promise), and it's delivered in such a way that makes it one of the best stalker films ever created.

That's probably why I find myself so excited for Gearbox's upcoming foray into the Alien universe. Aliens: Colonial Marines looks to take the stalking nature of the original film and put it next to the action flick style of Aliens, the first series sequel. It appears to be a game that might marry the best to steps in the Alien universe, and if it pulls that challenge off, it could be a wonderfully composed piece of fiction.

Gearbox, in case you need your memories jogged, is the studio responsible for bringing Duke Nukem Forever back from the dead. More impressively, they're also the folks behind the much-loved Borderlands.

So, excuse me while I nerd out over the cool new trailer you see at the head of this post.

Aliens: Colonial Marines is set to launch in the fall of this year. It will be available on the PC, Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, Wii U and Nintendo 3DS platforms. It's being published by Sega.
