2018 turned out to be a disappointing year for Apple’s AirPower. Specifically, it never launched, with no indication when it will be available.
In 2017, the company promised a wireless charging case for the AirPods alongside AirPower wireless charger, but neither actually showed up. We don’t know much about the former, but the latter is allegedly poised to make its debut in 2019.
Last we heard of AirPowe,r Apple had run into major issues figuring out the coil technology to not only charge three devices at once but also intelligently communicate with them. Unfortunately, it had not figured out how to properly implement the technology and was running into overheating issues.
Apple has yet to update the status of the wireless charger, but a new tweet from developer Steve Troughton-Smith reveals he’s heard that AirPower has been fixed and it could be released any day now. As we haven’t heard this directly from Apple, we’ll take the update with a grain of salt.
Looking ahead, as the tweet suggests, AirPower might debut alongside the rumored iPhone XS battery case later this year.
