Apple has made some key changes to the new AirPods.

The new AirPods introduce several exciting new changes, such as hands-free Hey Siri support and a longer lasting battery. The only real issue is that the design is still the same as the original version.

What's different?

If you're an existing AirPods owner, there are a few things to know about AirPods 2 when considering an upgrade.

Meet the H1 chip

AirPods 2 features a brand new H1 chip, which Apple says features "custom audio architecture to create a revolutionary audio experience and improved synchronization." Now, connecting AirPods to your iPhone, iPad, and Apple Watch is easier than ever. Sound quality is also seemingly improved thanks to the new H1 chip.

Hey Siri support

Similar to the iPhone, iPad, and HomePod, AirPods 2 features Hey Siri support, making it easy to interact with Apple's smart assistant. The new support for Hey Siri will make it easier than ever to make a call, get directions, and change music. Once you go hands-free, you'll never want to go back.

Improved battery life

While the H1 chip provides faster connect times and performance efficiencies, it also provides improved battery life. According to Apple, the H1 chip "allows AirPods to deliver up to 50 percent more talk time" when compared to the original AirPods.

For folks who use the AirPods for conference calling, the improved talk time will make a major difference. Apple also says that 15 minutes in the case will equal up to two hours of talk time, compared to about an hour of talk time with the previous version.

What's the same?

While Apple made a number of improvements under the hood, the AirPods 2 feature the same design as the first generation wireless headphones. There's no discernible aesthetic difference between AirPods and AirPods 2, which means if you were hoping for a big redesign, you'll be sorely disappointed.

Additionally, Apple says AirPods 2 will deliver 5 hours of listening time on a single charge, which is the same as the first generation AirPods.
