  • ABC announced Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. will end with season 7.
  • The show debuted in 2013 and focused on Agent Coulson.
  • More details should be unveiled at the Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. panel at San Diego Comic Con.

And just like that, Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. is coming to an end.

Multiple outlets have confirmed that the beloved show will come to an end once the season 7 airs, reportedly in 2020. With Disney+ launching later this year with its own slate of TV shows that take place in the MCU, it was only a matter of time before Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. came to an end.

"The gratitude we feel for the army of incredible fans/friends/agents who gave us this epic journey is difficult to express," said Clark Gregg, who plays Agent Coulson. "It's a show about a family and you are ours. Thank you."

Beginning in 2013, Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. focused on Agent Coulson, who was for a time also a fixture in Marvel movies. In the show, he was tasked with forming his own superhero team to combat threats, including HYDRA, Kree, and more. Just recently, however, Coulson's fate once again took a turn for the worse.

"When you know what you're doing, you can take greater risks, of life and death," said Marvel's Jeph Loeb told Deadline. "Those kinds of decisions suddenly now are real on the table because you're not playing how do we undo this when we get to the next season. You're playing that this is going to be the end of the story."

Although Loeb knows the show is coming to an end, he's excited about what's to come.

"Season 6 isn't over, and you've seen none of Season 7," Loeb said. "That's the celebration, there's still more. It's not as though we're going to walk off the stage and say goodbye, you're never going to see another one of these new stories again. You have to see how this ends, you have to."
