In their fourth quarter of 2016, the company saw revenue jump 49 percent over 2016, and their full year was up 42 percent, according to a report from GamesBeat. Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare was once again the best-selling game of the year, but a lot of credit goes to Blizzard.

Overwatch released in May and climbed to 25 million users by the end of the year, World of Warcraft saw a 10 percent bump in active users after the release of the Legion expansion, and their card game Hearthstone grew by 20 percent as well.

The sales are coming from inside the game

Huge games like Call of Duty and Overwatch certainly played into Activision Blizzard’s earnings, but it was the in-game sales that made up the majority of their incoming cash. Of the $6.6 billion the company pulled in in 2016, $3.6 billion came from in-game sales in games like Hearthstone and Overwatch, up from just $1.6 billion the previous year. Activision had also purchased King, the company behind Candy Crush Saga, and had 405 million monthly active users for 2016.
