Activision and Nickelodeon have come to an agreement that will bring a smile to multiple generations of fans of anamorphic superheroes. Based on the popular new CG cartoon which premiered last September, this new generation of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles will soon be playable on video game consoles.
No word yet on who will be developing them or which consoles will be targeted, but given the series' massive popularity and Activision's love of all things green, it's a safe bet there isn't a platform that won't feature the reptilian brothers duking it out with the Foot Clan.
For the past decade, most of the Ninja Turtles games were based on the popular 2003 action cartoon and handled by Ubisoft. Reception towards most these games were mixed to bad, but a single GBA beat 'em up based on the 2007 CG movie has a significant following who will swear by its quality. Most of this praise comes from how well it channels Konami's marvelous Ninja Turtles games from back in the NES, SNES and Arcade days. Activision has a rich legacy of popular and classic beat 'em ups to live up to, so I wonder if they have it in them.
More importantly, I'm wondering if they are going to re-release Konami's excellent TMNT Arcade Game that was pulled from XBLA once Ubisoft lost the license. I remember it only being 400 MS points when it was pulled, but I doubt we'll ever find it so cheap again.
As a child of the late 80s and early 90s, I have a lot of fond memories of the Turtles cartoons and games. While I never did get into the 2003 animated show as much as some longtime fans did, I really enjoyed the 2007 film mentioned above. Any old timers into this series, or is it best to just let it be?
