That gum you like is going to come back in style. Just like Guitar Hero, Rock Band and now Tony Hawk. The Hawkman himself had been hinting at it for some time, with acknowledgement from Activision, but the publisher announced the game officially on Tuesday via an exclusive first look from Game Informer magazine.

Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 5 – that’s the official name, not a placeholder (just as we’d guessed) – will be developed by Robomodo for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One and released later this year, according to Game Informer. Previous generation consoles will get the game a bit later.

THPS5 wants to take the series back to where it all began with stages filled with obstacles ripe for insane combos instead of the weird, troubled open world kinds of settings the series moved to in its later versions.

The game will sport online cooperative and competitive play and a skate park editor.

Tony Hawk returns as a playable character, but the lineup looks to be all new otherwise, populated with modern skaters. Game Informer is going to have a six page feature in its upcoming issue, so we should know more about the game soon.
