A King’s Tale: Final Fantasy XV was originally pitched as a free game for those who pre-ordered Square Enix’s hit through GameStop, and as I and many others had guessed, Square Enix will now bring it to the general public who bought it elsewhere. I just didn’t expect it to be free!
The game will be heading to Europe on March 1, but North America does not yet have a release date. The beat ’em up takes plenty of inspiration from the classic arcade days of the genre, and it stars Noctis’s father Regis and the beautiful setting of Final Fantasy XV.
About
A King’s Tale: Final Fantasy XV is an action game with retro-styled graphics and fast-paced combat. Taking place a fictitious 30 years before Final Fantasy XV, the action centers around King Regis and his faithful companions (Weskham, Cid and Clarus) defending the royal capital from raiding monsters.
Key Features
- Deep Combat System – Combos, counters, and Regis’ signature “Warp Strike” combine for lightning fast real-time combat that rewards fast reflexes and smart tactics.
- Companions – Three distinct companions offer unique and new ways to attack as well as tailored super moves that deal massive damage.
- Magic – Ignite the battlefield, freeze your enemies, or electrify your foes with Fire, Ice, and Lightning magic.
- Summons – Call upon epic Astral entities to decimate your foes in jaw-dropping ways.
I haven’t heard many hands-on comments about it
Normally, I would hear about a little spin-off like this, but nobody seemed to talk about it after it launched. I get the feeling that it didn’t really catch on in any way, and it was just a side project that Square Enix made for fun. Trailers showed a game that looked like it was animated well but lacked the combo heavy combat that typically made such games fun back in the day.
Still, free is free, and I’ll be sure to try it out once the game hits North American shores as well.
