Apple just released invites for its iPhone 6s event on September 9, which will be held in San Francisco. While we are already expecting the iPhone 6s, iPhone 6s Plus, a refreshed Apple TV, possible new iPads and more, earlier rumors pointed to the small chance that Apple might also introduce a 4-inch iPhone 6c.
That won’t happen, 9to5Mac says, noting that “the device is not yet ready to ship.” Apple will instead offer 4-inch fans the iPhone 5s with a free on-contract price. The news outlet said Apple has also been testing an even smaller 3.5-inch iPhone for folks who want something really small, but that Apple probably won’t ever release such a phone.
As the new iPhones hit store shelves, Apple will also reportedly discontinue the iPhone 5c — apparently never a popular phone, despite Apple’s intentions to hook people to colorful cases — in the United States. Farewell, old friend.
