Nintendo Will Debut Legendary Zelda Game for Switch on January 16

I hope you subscribe to Nintendo Switch Online, because the service is about to debut arguably the most divisive Zelda game ever made: Zelda II: The Adventure of Link.

The title is part of Nintendo’s push to add more content to its online service, which also features titles like Super Mario Bros. 3, Ninja Gaiden, and Metroid, just to name a few. In lieu of a virtual console, Nintendo Switch Online is the next best thing.

Released in 1988 (1987 in Japan), Zelda II took a different approach to the formula introduced by The Legend of Zelda for the NES. Instead of a top-down viewpoint, Zelda II was more of a Metroidvania-style game with platforming elements. The title also featured some role-playing elements.

Although it’s considered the black sheep of the series, Zelda II is worth playing. I remember being confused by it as a kid, because it felt nothing like the original Zelda. But now as an adult, I can’t wait to truly dive into the adventure.

In addition to Zelda II, Nintendo is also adding Blaster Master, another great platformer that emphasizes combat.

Both Zelda II and Blaster Master will be available through Nintendo Switch Online ($20/year) on January 16.
