Mercedes-Benz’s AMG GT is a wildly fun twin turbo V8 supercar. Its engine meant it could do just about anything on the road, except carry around more than one passenger. That’s the downfall for the two-seater. Enter the 4-door version unveiled at the Geneva Auto Show that adds much-needed practically to the sports coupe.
The Mercedes-AMG GT 4-door is the family sedan for the masses—who want a little something extra under the hood. And the little extra is raw power. It will be available in two V8 versions: 63 and 63 S. The 63 will produce 577 horsepower and go 0 to 60 miles per hour in 3.3 seconds.
The 63 S ups the ante with 630 horsepower and a 0 to 60 time of 3.1 seconds. That means shopping for groceries or dropping the kids off at school will be done quickly.
Both versions will come with Mercedes 4Matic all-wheel drive and the 4.0-liter V8 engine. Interestingly, drivers will have the option to choose Mercedes’ new EQ Boost inline-six (under the name GT 53) if they want something more scaled back. By scaled back, we mean 429 horsepower, 384-pound feet of torque and a 0 to 60 time of 4.4 seconds. Not bad at all for the “slow” version.
It has been established how powerful the four-door AMG GT is, and it is equally as good looking. Mercedes’ new aggressive front fascia makes an appearance with a special vertical-lined grille. The bottom air vents compliment the grille as well, while the back is sporting a hatch with a noticeable spoiler and quad exhaust.
Pricing and availability were not discussed by Mercedes at the event. More information should be disseminated later in the year. The sooner we can drive this car the better.
