The rumor mill has been littered with reports about what Apple is expected to do with its iPhone line in 2018, but next year is still a big mystery. However, the picture is getting a lot clearer thanks to noted Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, whose latest research note sheds light on what to expected from the iPhone in 2019.
According to Kuo, the iPhone is going to have “marked innovations” in 2019, though he states the exact design and feature-set won’t become clear until around September or October after the launch of the 2018 iPhones. Kuo also expects the LCD display models to outsell the OLED display models next year.
A big reason for that is pricing. He expects the upcoming 6.1-inch LCD iPhone model released this year to be priced around $600 to $700, making it much more affordable than the $1,000 iPhone X. The iPhone X didn’t quite meet the demand Apple predicted and that was mostly due to the higher price tag, hence its willingness to release a cheaper iPhone this year.
It’s not entirely set in stone right now, but Kuo says if Apple chooses to adopt the triple camera system with the 2019 iPhones, it will greatly benefit its camera supply chain.
Kuo went on to reiterate reports that Apple is going to release three new iPhones this year: the iPhone X successor, iPhone X Plus and low cost 6.1-inch iPhone with an LCD panel. Unfortunately, Kuo doesn’t shed any new information about when to expect the iPhone SE 2.
Aside from the iPhone, Kuo expects Apple to release new iPad models with Face ID, a new low-cost MacBook Air and a new Apple Watch with a bigger display. All three have been expected for some time and they appear to be on the way in the second half of 2018.
