With the iPhone X, Apple created the blueprints that the company will use for years to come. Even still, Apple could be planning some big changes in 2019, including drastically minimizing the size of its infamous notch.
In a post just days before the iPhone XS and iPhone XS Max are set to launch, Ben Geskin casually remarked that next year’s devices will likely use the same 5.8-inch and 6.5-inch screen sizes found in this year’s releases. But the notches could be a lot smaller—Geskin provided an image showing what they might look like.
If the image provided by Geskin is an accurate representation of what Apple has planned for next year, the notch could be half the size that it is now. That will take some serious engineering, considering the size of Apple’s True Depth camera system.
If lieu of the notch disappearing completely, it’s nice to hear it might be minimized. However, it’s still not nearly as small as the teardrop notch we’ve seen in some recent Android devices recently released.
Geskin also shared a wish list of changes he wants to see from next year’s new iPhone, including a ProMotion display, USB-C Fast Charge support, and a new home screen design in iOS 13.
If you were left unimpressed by the iPhone XS and iPhone XS Max, next year could bring the big changes fans of the original iPhone X have been waiting for.
