Thursday night at The Game Awards, RPG studio BioWare finally unveiled the long-awaited sequel to Dragon Age: Inquisition. But they didn’t tell us much.
Here’s what we know about the game itself. It exists, and it picks up where Inquisition left off. The trailer is accompanied by the hashtag #TheDreadWolfRises. The Dread Wolf is the true identity of Inquisition companion Solas the Elven mage. Inquisition‘s final moments revealed that Solas wasn’t who he said he was, and it sounds like he’ll be rising to power as the main villain this time around.
BioWare says that the team behind the game is made of BioWare veterans, including people from Dragon Age: Origins, Jade Empire, and Baldur’s Gate. That’s an important pedigree for a series that has committed fans but has struggled to address their wants as the series has evolved. It’s good news and it’s just about the only news.
BioWare didn’t tack a year onto the trailer, so it’s definitely not a 2019 game. 2019 is going to be all about Anthem. Dragon Age 4 – whatever BioWare ends up naming it – won’t be out until 2020 at least. We wouldn’t be surprised if it took a lot longer.
