Apple has tapped Oscar-winning studio A24 to produce a slate of films as part of its efforts to procure original programming for its streaming platform.
The move continues to add Hollywood heavyweights to Apple’s side as it expands its content programming. It already has deals in the pipeline that will produce original content from Steven Spielberg, Reese Witherspoon and Oprah Winfrey.
With A24 into the fray, Apple has joined forces with one of the most successful movie studios in Hollywood right now. A24 is the studio responsible for films such as Lady Bird, Ex Machina, The Disaster Artist and Room. Its most successful project to date is the Oscar-winning film Moonlight, which took home the Best Picture award in 2017.
Few details were provided about the deal other than it is a “multiyear agreement.” The report didn’t disclose if the movies produced by A24 would see a theatrical release or if they would solely be available on Apple’s streaming platform.
