If Notches Stress You Out, Don’t Look at ASUS’ Next Flagship

ASUS knows how to use a notch, but its next flagship’s won’t look like anything that we’re familiar with from these cutouts. The ZenFone 6, which should arrive in early 2019, will use an off-center notch. Seriously, the notch appears to be pushed over to the right side where at-a-glance-information usually gets stored.

Multiple photos and a video, all obtained by HDBlog. It, give an idea of what to expect. It could be a prototype, but ASUS isn’t a stranger to wacky designs. With that said, the ZenFone 6 could very well ship with a notch that’s offset.

Elsewhere, the ZenFone 6 should turn out to be a standard high-end phone. It’ll have a metal construction, and inside there’ll probably be premium components like Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 845 or 850. ASUS wouldn’t be able to avoid the head-scratching layout for its notch, though.

Here’s a closeup of the off-center notch:

Since it’s a prototype, there’s a slight chance the ZenFone 6 gets tweaked and relocates the notch. It could end up in the center or even completely in the corner. Frankly, anything would be better than the off-center notch shown here. It awkwardly splits the right side of the status bar into two segments.

The ZenFone 6 could make its global debut before the end of the year, but it’s more likely to show up at MWC 2019 in late February. The trade show serves as a launching pad for various brands’ latest mobile devices.
