Ewan McGregor is putting on the Black Mask and joining the DC universe.
The famed Hollywood actor best known for his role in the Star Wars prequels has agreed to join the next DC project Birds of Prey. He will portray the villain Black Mask, according to Deadline.
In the comic books, Black Mask, also known as Roman Sionis, is a mob lord in Gotham City who murders his parents to take over their company. He soon fails with the company and begins blaming others for his failures, including Bruce Wayne, while diving deeper into crime.
McGregor joins a cast that includes Margot Robbie, who is reprising her role as Harley Quinn from Suicide Squad, Mary Elizabeth Winstead, who will play Huntress, and Jurnee Smollett-Bell, who will play Black Canary.
Birds of Prey director Cathy Yan recently revealed the movie will be R-rated, following a similar precedent set by another DC flick to carry the same rating, Joaquin Phoenix’s Joker. Christina Hodson is penning the script and is also working on Batgirl, another DC movie in the works.
Birds of Prey will fly into theaters February 7, 2020.
