PSA: Don’t Bust Your iPhone XR Without Some Insurance

Don’t be reckless with the iPhone XR. Although it’s the least expensive of the three models shipping this fall, Apple didn’t dramatically bring down the cost of repairs. The Cupertino-based company will need you to hand over some serious money in exchange for a fix. So maybe it’d be wise to pick up AppleCare+ coverage as well.

If your iPhone XR’s edge-to-edge screen gets messed up, it’ll set you back $199. Other damage has a much steeper price, though. You’ll be paying $399 for everything else.

AppleCare+, which costs as little as $8/mo, includes plenty of benefits. Your iPhone will get two incidents of accidental damage, around-the-clock access to Apple Support, and express replacement. Just pay service fees ranging from $29 to $99 for each incident.

Here’s the pricing chart, courtesy of Apple:

As a safety precaution, you should consider a duo of accessories. Get a case and a screen protector for the iPhone XR. Both will keep this iPhone in mint condition as long as you don’t throw it off a cliff or run into a drastic accident. Then you won’t need to ever pay a significant amount of money to get it fixed.

The iPhone XR is up for pre-order, and it goes on sale later this week. Apple’s partners are expected to have some units in stock for the release date. Stay tuned for our full review on the iPhone XR, too.
