Nintendo has been teasing an online service for its Switch portable system for months now, only specifying it would launch some time in the month of September. But now the official date has been revealed.
The subscription service will launch September 18 through the eShop. Nintendo is offering a 7-day free trial for the service upon its launch letting users try out the service before they commit to a subscription. Details about the service are still being kept under wraps, which Nintendo promises to expand upon in a Direct event taking place on September 13 at 6 p.m. ET.

Some of the details Nintendo has revealed is online functionality, cloud-based saved game backups, special offers for members and 20 NES games. So far, Nintendo has revealed 10 of the NES games that will be available, including Mario Bros., The Legend of Zelda, Super Marios Bros. 3 and Donkey Kong. The rest should be revealed during the upcoming Nintendo Direct event.
Nintendo Switch Online will be available as a monthly subscription for $3.99 per month or as a yearly subscription for $19.99. Nintendo is also offering a family membership plan for $34.99 that will include up to seven members.
