Looks the like Fast and Furious gang is getting back together for another turn around the race track. According to a new report, Vin Diesel and the gang are returning to work on Fast & Furious 9 in April 2019, ending the long break for the franchise.

When The Fate of the Furious revved into theaters last April, it was expected that the next movie in the franchise would be out within two years, but unforeseen complications threw a wrench into those plans. The primary reason being a cast altercation between Dwayne Johnson and Vin Diesel, prompting Johnson to move forward with a spin off project centered around his character Luke Hobbs.

The project, titled Hobbs and Shaw, is still happening, but now that some of the drama has subsided the main Fast and Furious movies are getting back on track.

One of the biggest changes the latest installment is the return of franchise stalwart director Justin Lin who helmed every movie from Tokyo Drift to Fast & Furious 6. He temporarily left to pursue other projects including directing Star Trek Beyond.

With the director and crew on board, the production is set to begin principal photography in April 2019. Universal has set a release date of April 10, 2020 for Fast & Furious 9, giving the project one year to get made. That’s an ambitious schedule especially given the large production scope the last few movies in the franchise have embarked on.
