It may have come first, but Daredevil has remained a gem among Marvel’s Netflix shows. Other shows have been better, but more of Daredevil and Matt Murdock’s story has been good than bad, and even the bad stuff has been watchable. We’re stoked for the show to return for season 3, and part of that lies in the return of the best part of the entire Marvel Netflix universe: Wilson Fisk, the Kingpin. Actor Vincent D’Onofrio knows we’re going wild waiting, and gave us the following tease on Twitter this week:

Just what season 3 will be about is under wraps, but the ending stinger from Marvel’s Defenders gives us a pretty solid idea of where things could go. The most obvious is Daredevil’s “Born Again” storyline.
In this arc, Wilson Fisk discovers Daredevil’s identity and uses that to make his lives as both Daredevil and Matt Murdock a living hell. Murdock ends up homeless, broke, and alone before Fisk sends a pill-popping supergoon called Nuke after him to torture him with some carnage. You might remember Jessica Jones character Will Simpson, who had the same affliction – he was the Netflix take on that character. The storyline opens the same way Defenders ended – with Matt being cared for by his estranged mother, Maggie, in a comatose state.
Another piece of casting information leads us to what Netflix might be doing instead of using Nuke. Daredevil season 3’s costume department jackets feature a big purple bullseye, which all but confirms Bullseye as being a major villain in the season.
That opens the door for Kevin Smith’s “Guardian Devil” storyline, which features another Marvel villain, Mysterio (he’s owned by Sony, don’t expect him to show up) also trying to drive Daredevil insane through a convoluted set of illusions and tricks. This story hits its climax with Daredevil and Bullseye fighting it out in a church, with both Maggie and Karen Page, who had separated from Murdock to figure herself out, caught in the crossfire. The last interaction between Karen and Murdock put the two of them in the same spot, so this all seems to line up pretty cleanly.
That’s all speculation, but we’re excited to see where Daredevil goes in season 3. The return of Wilson Fisk gives us a strong indication that we could be in for another truly great season of the show when it hits next year. In the meantime, we have Iron Fist season 2 to look forward to on September 7. Woo.
