DC’s Shazam! added another actor associated with Marvel to play a role in the upcoming film. Djimon Hounsou was cast as a 3,000-year-old wizard responsible for giving Billy Batson his special ability to turn into the mighty Shazam superhero.
According to Entertainment Weekly, Hounsou already shot his scenes, though his involvement with the movie is still under wraps.
Hounsou was previously in Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy where he portrayed Korath the Pursuer, a Kree mercenary after Star-Lord. He’s also reportedly reprising his role in the upcoming Captain Marvel film due out in March.
He’s now making his move to the DC universe, though it is not his first DC movie. Hounsou also starred in the 2005 adaptation of the DC comic book Constantine.
In the Shazam! comic books, the wizard Hounsou is portraying is a 3,000-year-old who battles against evil entities though he is ready to find a successor to continue his mission, which is when he comes across Billy Batson and gives him his supernatural abilities by stating the phrase Shazam.
Shazam! will arrive in theaters April 5, 2019.
