In the dead of night, Tesla quietly slashed the price of certain Model 3 options. The news comes at an opportune time as Tesla tries to recover from a troubled production. Reducing prices is always a good way to win the hearts of customers.

Though Tesla promised the Model 3 would start at $35,000, that version is still not available. The current base model starts off at $49,000 and upgrading it raises the price. However, the new pricing makes it a little more affordable.

The changes applies to the dual-motor, all-wheel variant with the 310-mile battery, which would raise the price by $5,000. The price of the dual-motor Model 3 is now $53,000. Tesla also cut the price of the Performance version of the Model 3, which is available for $64,000.

Electrek has confirmed that the new prices will be retroactive to customers who have already placed their Model 3 order.

Other changes Tesla secretly made was adding new color options to the Model 3’s online design studio and reducing the wait period for the standard battery option to “6-9 months.”
