Burnout creators announce two new games about racing and smashing cars

Despite being out of active development since 2009, EA’s and Criterion Games’ Burnout series, especially the series premiere Burnout 3: Takedown, enjoys a legendary reputation as one of the most daring and fun racing franchises in the history of video games.

When the people behind the series left to form their own studio, many saw this as the end of Burnout. Since then, however, those same people, including series creator Fiona Sperry and Alex Ward, and their new studio at Three Fields Development have been hard at work to create the perfect spiritual successor. Their first hit with Dangerous Golf and their first driving game Danger Zone are now being followed up with two new driving games, both of them hammering down on what longtime Burnout fans crave.

The first game, Danger Zone 2, is a sequel to their indie hit from last year, and it will continue to flesh out the experience, which is clearly based on Burnout’s Crash Mode.

Danger Zone 2 takes the crash testing action out of the Test Area and onto real public roads.

A high speed driving game featuring speed, traffic and crashes, Danger Zone 2 lets players loose onto the Freeways of the USA, the Motorways of the UK and the Autovias of Spain.

Using advanced real world physics and the power of Unreal Engine, Danger Zone 2 lets players ‘crash for cash’ and compete against each other to cause the most chaos on the road.

And while crashing is important, Three Fields Entertainment still needs a genuine racer to back the mechanic up. To solve that, the studio is also developing Dangerous Driving, which sounds much more in line with the main Burnout racing experience in the description on the official website.

Dangerous Driving is a closed track competitive racing game featuring boost, takedowns, destruction and the biggest car crashes seen in a racing game to date.

As a classic Burnout fan, I’ll be down to check them out, and so should you, even if you are not. If Three Fields Entertainment gets these releases down pat, maybe they’ll put them in the same package next time!

Danger Zone 2 will be released for the PlayStation 4, Windows PC and Xbox One next month, in July, and Dangerous Racing will be released later in 2018 for, most likely, the same platforms. For now, Danger Zone is available for the Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and PC through Steam.
