Apple Maps is down, but you should be using Google Maps anyway

Update: Apple Maps is back up and running. The issues were resolved at 1:05PM ET.

Your iPhone might not get you where you need to go today if you’re using Apple Maps. The service is down for a large number of users.

So far, Apple Maps is borderline useless. Users are unable to view routes, get real-time navigation, and complete searches. As the issues are worked on, select features may come back online before others.

Apple Maps’ outage began on Friday morning, and Apple confirmed it’s actively investigating the matter.

The best alternative during the outage is Google Maps. Even when Apple Maps returns to full strength, you might want to stay with Google’s service. Google Maps tends to be preferred by both iOS and Android users due to the service’s history providing in-depth maps as well as time-saving directions.

Apple should have its service back to normal by the end of the day.
