Microsoft Studios is getting bigger with the addition of five new developers.

Compulsion Games, Undead Labs, Playground Games, and Ninja Theory are joining the company. All parties will work with Microsoft Studios on their exclusive titles for Xbox.

These developers have worked on games like We Happy FewState of Decay 2Forza Horizon 4, and Hellblade: Senua’s Sacrifice.

The Initiative, meanwhile, is an entirely new developer that’ll be based in Santa Monica. It’s described as having “the freedom to explore, try new things and operate like an independent studio, with the backing from one of the biggest companies in the world.” We don’t know exactly what The Initiative is doing yet, but Darrell Gallagher is leading the way.

Gallagher is an industry veteran who spent time with Activision and Crystal Dynamics making the Tomb Raider reboot. Before that, he spent time with Sony, Rockstar Games, and THQ.

Microsoft’s been knocked in recent years for not releasing enough exclusives, so the additions might shift that perception.

The company also announced Halo Infinite and Crackdown 3 for the Xbox One, but both are from franchises that have been around for a bit. Xbox needs fresh intellectual property to attract gamers that have otherwise stayed away from the platform.
