Pixel 3 duo to keep display sizes mostly unchanged

Google is developing two new phones for the fall, the Pixel 3 and Pixel 3 XL. From a photo of alleged screen protectors, it looks like the Mountain View-based company will follow the industry trend in which flagships are gaining notches to provide more screen real estate. Google, though, should be doing so only on the larger model as the Pixel 3 keeps average bezels.

Yet both will be very similar to their predecessors on paper. The Pixel 3 and Pixel 3 XL may have tweaked layouts, but they’re going to resemble the Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL in terms of size.

OnLeaks, another well-known insider in this space, has apparently been told by multiple people how big the displays are on Google’s 2018 flagship duo. While the Pixel 3 measures 5.3 inches diagonally without a notch, the Pixel 3 XL goes up to 6.2 inches.

The Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL have displays coming in at 5 inches and 6 inches, respectively. Based on OnLeaks’ information, Google is largely content with those sizes. If anything, the Pixel 3 XL could feel more compact since the notch will raise the screen-to-body ratio.

Other specifications expected for these phones include Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 845 and Android P.

The Pixel 3 is still many months away. While we’re getting plenty of information now, the two models probably won’t debut until early October. Google was reportedly interested in releasing a mid-range Pixel phone this summer, but that plan has since changed over to a possible debut in 2019.
