Developer Bethesda usually plays it pretty close to the vest when it comes to announcements for its core properties, Fallout and The Elder Scrolls. If something is announced, it typically means it’s coming soon. Bethesda is teasing something new in the Fallout universe, and it has us wondering just what it is we’ll be playing and how soon we’ll be playing it.
The tease comes via a tweet from the developer’s official Twitter account that uses one of Fallout‘s classic “Please Stand By” images, something they’ve used to tease Fallout games before. But this one is a little different – it’s in color.

We have no confirmation about what this means, but we can make some guesses. The 10th anniversary of Fallout 3 comes this fall, making for a perfect time to drop a remaster. The remaster could be headed for Switch or VR, or it could be a remaster in the vein of Skyrim Special Edition. It could also be another spin-off game in the vein of the wildly-successful Fallout Shelter. Chances are very good that it’s not Fallout 5, though. The company has been alternating between Fallout and Elder Scrolls since Fallout 3, so a proper Fallout sequel seems unlikely. Also unlikely would be something in the style of Fallout: New Vegas, which saw Bethesda licensing out its game world to developer Obsidian to make a somewhat smaller title separate from the the other Fallout games. Not that we’d be complaining if they did – Fallout: New Vegas was excellent.
Either way, vault dwellers keep your eyes peeled – there’s something new on the way.
