Your iPhone is ready to be updated. Apple announced that iOS 11.4 is rolling out to mobile devices right now, with the biggest improvement benefitting the HomePod and other speakers.

The latest version of iOS introduces AirPlay 2. It’s a major upgrade for Apple’s wireless streaming technology that enables multi-room audio. Whether you’re using the HomePod or another brand’s products, you can have everything work together and create an immersive listening experience.

If you’re pairing other speakers with the HomePod, Apple’s smart speaker can still have Siri take voice commands to perform actions. As long as you have at least one HomePod, it’s full array of software features are spread to every speaker.

AirPlay 2 is already compatible with speakers from Sonos, Bose, Bang & Olufsen, Bluesound, Bowers & Wilkins, Denon, Libratone, Marantz, Marshall, Naim, and Pioneer.

The other big addition in iOS 11.4 is Messages in iCloud. Apple is combining its messaging platform and its cloud storage service so that users can have everything sync between devices. It may sound like a feature that’s existed for years, but now you’re able to rely on the cloud. Handing off the workload to iCloud also means you’re using less on-device storage.

When setting up a new device, you’ll be ready to go with entire conversation histories. The Messages app previously started syncing conversations between devices with anything sent or received after setup.

Let us know how you like iOS 11.4. It’s not a dramatic change, but we’re not too far from that anyway. Apple will unveil iOS 12 at WWDC 2018 next month.
